Founder + Guide:

Charles Post is an ecologist, birdbander + avid birder, and award winning wildlife conservation filmmaker.

Charles spent nearly a decade studying at UC Berkeley and working as a research scientist focused on wild and working landscapes. He earned his B.S. and Masters degree in Ecology, studying under the celebrated researcher, Dr. Mary Power. His graduate research focussed on the ecology of the American dipper (Cinclus mexicanus).

Since then, Charles built a bridge between his science background and creative ventures through his widely followed Instagram account (@charles_post), recent podcast The Traverse with Chris Burkard, directing and producing award-winning films, and widely published writing and photography spanning topics from the decline of kittiwakes in the Norwegian arctic to the beauty and fragility of migrating raptors across North America.

Charles is the creative director of Top 50 Farmers, an organization committed to scaling regenerative farming across Europe, and also works as a sustainability communications and strategy consultant supporting organizations like World Wildlife Fund, Rolex’s Perpetual Planet Initiative, and brands like Dometic, GORE-TEX, Norrøna, Hipcamp and SITKA Gear, where he developed and lead their SITKA Ecosystem Grants Program.

He is a Swarovski Optik Ambassador, member of the IUCN Species Survival Commission, a Surfrider Foundation Ambassador and a Fellow International at the Explorers Club.

Charles lives in Norway’s Lofoten Islands north of the arctic circle with his wife, Rachel Pohl, his samoyeds, Knute and Rowan, and rescue cat, Hannah.

As often as possible, Charles participates in bird banding efforts and bird research projects that contribute to local and global conservation and management efforts. Rio Mesa Research Station

  • I was hired by the University of Utah and National Geographic to run a seasonal bird banding effort targeting migratory songbirds passing through the remote desert ecosystems outside of Moab, Utah.

Lofoten Islands Shorebird Study

  • Since moving to the Lofoten Islands, I have been supporting a long-term population and habitat use study on the local Eurasian Oystercatcher population.

Lofoten Islands Songbird Study

  • In 2024, I began supporting a long-term migratory songbird study here in the western Lofoten Islands.
